Visit to ICTAL to learn about the RES-MAB project and research into bee products

On 5 August, the Alto Bernesga Biosphere Reserve organised a visit to the Institute of Food Science and Technology (ICTAL) in León, as part of the European RES-MAB project.

The event was attended by 25 people involved in the beekeeping sector, including children and teenagers, who had the opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the research work carried out at the centre.

During the visit, participants were able to learn about the processes involved in analysing and characterising bee products, as well as how scientific research can help to promote local resources and generate new opportunities for the sector.

The presence of the younger participants added a particularly interesting dimension to the day, helping to foster their interest in science, research and beekeeping. The children and teenagers showed great interest and curiosity throughout the visit, participating actively and asking questions about the processes and work carried out in the laboratory.

Activities of this kind help to bring research closer to the local community, strengthen the link between science and the local economy, and spark the interest of the younger generations in the resources and opportunities offered by Biosphere Reserves.
